Physical Education

Our PE Lead is Miss Hannon.
The National curriculum for Physical Education states:
Key stage 1 Pupils should develop fundamental movement skills, become increasingly competent and confident and access a broad range of opportunities to extend their agility, balance and coordination, individually and with others. They should be able to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
Pupils should be taught to:
- master basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities
- participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending
- perform dances using simple movement patterns.
All children in Year 1 and Year 2 participate in sports and dance lessons every week, led by professional coaches.
From September 2013, schools have received extra sports funding through the Sports Pupil Premium. In our school this amounts to just over £18000. We use this funding in a number of ways to profile the importance of keeping healthy and active and laying the foundations for a continuing healthy lifestyle. Predominantly this is the employment of sports specialist to teach all children in our school and to run both dance and football lunch time clubs.
Additionally our school hosts GT Sports events twice a week who run after school multisports and football clubs for KS1 children. These are of half a term's duration, run directly by GT Sports and you will be required to complete an application form.
